Just some pictures I took of my second Icarus Shawl before giving it away.

FO North Roë Shawl / Chal North Roë acabado

Yes, here it is: finished and beautiful. It only needs to have those yarn ends hidden, but I couldn't wait to post a picture.
I used the same yarn as for the Swallow Tail--that's why they look pretty much like each other. It is lace wool from handpaintedyarn.com knitted with 3.5mm needles. I just used under one skein as I did some more repeats of all the charts in order to use as much of the yarn as possible. There is no problem in doing as many repetitions as you like as one chart always seems to fit in the next one.

As for blocking, well, contrary to what you may think with that lacy fishbone ending, the edge pattern is straight. I blocked them very tight, but the scallops have almost disappeared.

SP Bueno, ya está acabado. Ya sólo me queda esconder esos cabos que se ven por ahí sueltos. Pero no podía esperar para sacar la foto.

Usé la misma lana que para el Swallow Tail, por eso se parecen tanto el uno al otro. Era lace wool de handpaintedyarn.com con agujas del 3.5. Gasté una madeja casi entera porque hice más repeticiones de tódos los gráficos para aprovechar la lana al máximo. No hay problema con las repeticiones ya que cada gráfico encaja bien en el siguiente.

Pero en cuanto al hormado, al contrario de lo que parece con ese borde en espiga, la terminación es bastante recta. Yo lo hormé bien fuerte para marcar los picos, pero ahora ya casi han desaparecido.

Realización:
Montar 3 puntos bastante flojos. Tejer estos tres p del der.
Girar. Tejer 1 der, 1 aum, 1 der, 1 aum, 1 der (total 5p).
Girar. 5 der.
Girar. 2 der, heb, 1der, heb, 2 der (total 7p).
Girar. 2der, 3rev, 2der.
Girar. 2der, heb,1der, hebra 1der, heb, 1der, heb, 2 der (total 11p).
Ahora comenzar la vta. 3 del gráfico nº1.

Los gráficos sólo representan la mitad derecha. Hacer la otra parte de forma simétrica, como si la viéramos en un espejo.

Sólo aparecen las vtas impares. Por el revés, tejer al der los 2 p de orilla y al rev todos los demás puntos y hebras.

Como los puntos empleados son repetitivos, se pueden anadir una o más filas de motivos. Sólo será necesario prever una cantidad suficiente de lana.

Tejer una vez las vtas 3 a 30. Después, tejer 4 veces las vueltas 11 a 30.

Seguir con el gráf. nº2, repitiendo 4 veces el motivo.
Terminar con el gráf. nº 3, cerrando los puntos muy flojos, con agujas de uno o dos números más, si fuera necesario.

On the needles / En curso

So far I have finished the main bodice of the V-tunic in STC Muse I pictured in a previous post. This part is knit using two strands of yarn together and the sheer effect of the lower part is achieved by working with the same needle size and only one strand of yarn.

I have also started the North Roë shawl whose pattern I bought some time ago and which, now, is very generously offered free by its designer, Dodile. She has given me permission to translate it into Spanish and publish it here. The translation is nearly finished and will be here soon. Sorry, Picovoli will still have to wait a little longer.

SP Hasta el momento he acabado la parte principal de la túnica con escote en V de STC, que mostré en el post anterior. Esta parte va tejida con dos hebras del hilo y el efecto de transparencia del faldón se consigue utilizando agujas del mismo tamaño pero sólo una hebra.

También he comenzado el Chal North Roë cuyo patrón compré el año pasado y que ahora Dodile, su autora, muy generosamente ofrece de forma gratuita. También me ha dado permiso para traducir el patrón al español y publicarlo aquí. Estoy segura de que muchas otras tejedoras hispanoparlantes le quedarán muy agradecidas por su generosidad. El original está en inglés y francés. Ya casi he terminado con esta traducción y estará aquí muy pronto. Me temo que Picovoli todavía tenga que esperar un poco.

Swallow Tail Finished / Swallowtail Terminado

I finished Swallow Tail Shawl some days (weeks?) ago. I quite like the result-it is large enough and not the handkerchief-like shawl it seemed at the beginning. I did 24 repeats of the Budding Lace pattern instead of the 14 the original asked for and the shawl has been blocked to measure 85x180 cm approx. It is going to be a present for a Doctor friend we sometimes go to when our daughter is ill.
The changes I made were:

-cast on 7 stiches straightaway instead of working a tape and picking up the stitches. This made the beginning easier.

-used 3 stitches in garter stitch, instead of two, for the border. Now it doesn't seem such a good idea.

-made 24 reps of the budding lace chart. The resulting number of stitches is OK for the Lily of the Valley pattern, but some adaptations were necessary for the Peaked Edging.-the yarn was lace wool from handpaintedyarn.com used single on 3.5mm needles
I believe the result would have been better by working the Lily of the Valley pattern one or two more times. Next time.


SP Hace algún tiempo que acabé el chal Swallow Tail . Me gusta bastante el resultado: me ha salido suficientemente grande y no es el pañuelo que parecía al principio. Hice nada menos que 24 repeticiones de Budding Lace en vez de las 14 del original y lo he estirado hasta medir 85x180 cm aproximadamente. Va a ser un regalo para una amiga médico a quien acudimos a veces cuando nuestra hija está enferma.

Hice algunos cambios:

-monté 7 puntos directamente en vez de trabajar primero una tira y coger los puntos de alrededor. Esto es más fácil para mí.

-el borde de punto musgo tiene tres en vez de dos puntos, pero no es buena idea; no aporta nada.

-hice 24 repeticiones del punto Budding Lace. El número de puntos resultante es adecuado para el esquema de Muguetes pero es necesaria alguna adaptación de para trabajar el borde de picos.

-utilicé la lana para encaje (lace wool) de hadnpaintedyarn.com con agujas de 3.5mm.

Creo que hubiera resultado aún más bonito con una o dos repeticiones más del punto de Muguetes. La próxima vez...

Gorgeous free patterns on the net / Preciosos patrones gratuitos en la red

I have already left somewhere in my blog a couple of free patterns that can be found on the Internet: I am talking about Grumperina's Odessa Hat, and the Baby Shawl from Vintage-Knitting-Patterns.

Grumperina has a few more and you can sign up with Vintage-Knitting-Patterns to receive them in your e-mail.

Apart from those, I am thinking of some gorgeous shawls I have recently, or not so recently, seen here and there and whose instructions can be downloaded from free. The first is the oft knitted Flower Basket Shawl from Interweave.

The others are found at Finnish blog sites like the Pavonis-huivi at Neuleunia (look for the link to the pdf file in the right column); the Terttu-huivi at Lankakomero; and my three favourites by Mielitty called Liisan lilja -huivi, Kellokukka -huivi and Onnenlehti -huivi (these links will open a PDF file). Although the explanations are in Finninsh (no, I can't read Finnish) they are charted.

Grumperina tiene algunos patrones más y os podéis apuntar a Vintage-Knitting-Patterns para recibir algún otro en vuestro correo.

Aparte de estos, también estoy pensando en algunos chales muy bonitos que he visto recientemente aquí y allá y cuyas instrucciones pueden bajarse gratis. El primero, y super-conocido es el Flower Basket Shawl de Interweave.

Materiales
Chadwick`s Red Heart Baby Wool (15 ovillos de 3/4oz)
1 par de agujas de 5mm.

Medidas
Aproximadamente 1.35x1.35m

Abreviaturas
p=punto
d=derecho
r=revés
md=montado doble

Centro
Montar 181 puntos. Trabajar a punto musgo (todas las vueltas del derecho) 70cm y cerrar todos los puntos flojos. Dar forma cuadrada al centro sujetándolo con alfileres para que mida 76x76cm. Planchar con un trapo húmedo y dejar secar antes de quitar los alfileres.

Borde
Hacer 4 piezas.
Comenzando por el borde externo, montar 289 puntos y hace una vuelta del derecho.
Ahora, trabajar el dibujo como sigue:

1ª vuelta: 2juntos r, 2 r, *2d, hebra, 1d, hebra, 2d, 7rev. Repetir desde * hasta que queden 9p; 2d, hebra, 1d, hebra, 2d, 2r, 2 juntos r.

2ª v: md (=pasar 1p sin hacer, 2 juntos d, pasar el primero sobre estos dos), *7r, 2d, md, 2d. Repetir desde * hasta que queden 10 p; 7r, md.

3ª v: 2 juntos d, 1d, *hebra, 3d, hebra, 2d, 5r, 2d. Repetir desde * hasta que queden 6p; hebra, 3d, hebra, 1d, 2juntos d.

4ª v: 3 juntos r, 6r, *1d, md,1d, 9r. Repetir desde * hasta que queden 14p; 1d, md, 1d, 6r, 3 juntos r.

5ª v: 2 juntos d, 3d, * hebra, 2d, 3r, hebra, 5d. Repetir desde * hasta que queden 12p; hebra, 2d, 3r, 2d, hebra, 3d, 2 juntos d.

Repetir las vueltas 1ª a 6ª inclusive 8 veces más (= 181p). Cerrar los puntos. Coser los puntos cerrados en las piezas del borde al borde del centro de 75cm. Coser las costuras de las esquinas. Hormar con alfileres según medida y planchar ligeramente con un paño húmedo.

Swallow Tail Shawl/Chal

After much thinking about it, I have finally started a swallowtail shawl from the autumn issue of Interweave Knits. I am going to knit from stash instead of using some yarn with silk content for more drape, as I had previously decided. I am using some pinkish wool lace from handpaintedyarn.com of which I had bought two skeins. But it was not until I wound them into two balls that I realized that they are from different dye lots and, it seems, of different thicknesses!! The first solution was to use two threads, as the pattern calls for, but I did not like the swatch. So I am using the thinner of the skeins single on 3mm needles (I tried 3.5mm, but the stitches were too open for my taste).

Now comes another problem, the resulting Swallowtail Shawl is coming out rather smaller than the original. I have done about 7-8 reps of the second chart and it looks no bigger than a hankie plus there are not instructions in the magazine for a shawl with more repeats so I will have to find my way having seen that the Lily of the Valley pattern has a base of ten stitches (!?). Suggestions welcome.

SP Tras pensármelo mucho, he empezado el chal Swallowtail del número de otoño de Interweave Knits. He decidido usar lana que ya tenía en vez del comprar alguna mezcla de seda que le diera más caída, que era mi idea original. Estoy usando una lana rosada de handpainted.com de la que compré dos madejas. Pero hasta que no las hice ovillos, no me dí cuenta de que eran de tintadas distintas y también me parece que son de grosor distinto. La primera solución era tejer con hilo doble, como piden las instrucciones, pero no me gustó la muestra. Así que estoy usando la madeja más fina con hilo sencillo y agujas de 3mm. Probé con las del 3.5 pero el punto quedaba demasiado abierto para mi gusto.

Ahora queda otro problema: que el Swallotail está resultando mucho más pequeño que el original (tejido con agujas de 4mm). Llevo unas 7-8 repeticiones del segundo esquema y no aparenta mucho más grande que un pañuelo. Además no hay instrucciones en la revista para un chal con más repeticiones así que tendré que arreglármelas con los cálculos tras ver que el esquema del 'Lirio del Valle’ tiene una base de 10 puntos. Si alguna habéis hecho lo mismo, se agradecen sugerencias.
